Neck pain?

Cervicalgia is pain in the neck region. There are several possible causes of neck pain.

For example, after even a minor car accident, the passengers involved often experience neck pain. This is caused by the whiplash trauma of the impact or sudden stop of the vehicle. This type of injury often results in stiffness, tension, headaches, local and/or radiating pain in one or both arms, with or without numbness.

Osteoarthritis is another cause of neck pain. Over time, the cartilage covering the articular surfaces of the neck wears away and thins, a condition known as osteoarthritis. This condition leads to local pain and stiffness. As wear progresses, it can also lead to a narrowing of the foramen magnum (the space through which nerves pass), which can cause pain radiating to the arms, with or without numbness.

Inadequate posture at work and an inappropriate pillow can also be the cause of neck pain.

Whatever the cause, if you are experiencing neck pain, your physiotherapist will be able to assess your condition and work with you to establish the best treatment plan to resolve the problem.
