When should you see a physiotherapist?

You’ve probably already asked yourself this question. Here are some indications why you should consult a physiotherapy professional:

  • You experience unusual pain after practicing an activity (shoveling or gardening, for example) or sport, and the pain doesn’t subside with rest and ice, or gets worse.
  • You are experiencing a loss of strength and mobility following surgery, difficulty going up or down stairs, lifting your arms to do your hair, bending over to empty the dishwasher, and so on.
  • You experience stiffness or ankylosis following immobilization (wearing a cast or splint).
  • You suffer from muscular tension in the neck area, which can cause headaches, pain and stiffness.
  • You live with chronic lower back pain.
  • You have what’s called irradiated pain, which runs from your neck to your fingertips (cervico-brachialgia) or from your lower back to your foot (sciaticgia).
  • You’ve just suffered a sprain (ankle, knee, wrist, etc.).
  • And many more…

If you have any of these conditions, you can consult a physiotherapist directly without a doctor’s prescription. The physiotherapist will assess your condition and work with you to draw up an appropriate treatment plan. Working closely with the medical community, he or she will refer you to the doctor when necessary.

Don’t hesitate to discuss this option with your doctor if you’ve been injured in an accident at work or on the road, as physiotherapy professionals can help you get back on your feet quickly and effectively.
